Proverbs 22:6

Point your kids in the right direction—
when they’re old they won’t be lost. (MSG)

Wow, is it really Aug. 1 already?  June and July flew by!  Summer is one of my most cherished seasons.  Family and friends.  Beautiful Michigan summer weather.  The beach.  The pool.  Travel.  Rest.  All of it!  As I write this morning I can hear the sounds of summer.  The cicadas are lending their voices, along with a chorus of birds, to the “Summer Song”.  The sprinkler rotating in a steady beat.[...] read more

Intentionality: Lent, Easter and the Walk for Water

Regarding life together and getting along with each other, you don’t need me to tell you what to do. You’re God-taught in these matters. Just love one another! You’re already good at it; your friends all over the province of Macedonia are the evidence. Keep it up; get better and better at it. 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10 The Message

In Spanish, lento = slow/ lentamente = slowly. Lent is the time to slow down. To reflect. To think on what might be getting in our way with our relationship with God and turn back toward Him. This is why we “give something up”. Whether it’s Netflix or chocolate or a myriad of other behaviors or things, the idea is that when we reflexively go to our “thing”, we are meant to have to slow down and remember and focus on Him. I don’t know about you, but I struggle with this. I LOVE the idea of it…but the practice of it is difficult for me. I set out to take time to slow down, pray more, spend more time being aware of God’s presence, and yet I’m left with “life”. Life doesn’t stop, so how can I possibly slow down? It takes a great deal of INTENTIONALITY on my part. I must intentionally set aside time for it to happen…or it just won’t. I have to schedule it into my calendar like a meeting or it won’t happen. Time just washes over me like the ocean over the sand. Anyone with me on this?[...] read more

“It’s Just One of My Mess-Ups”

“I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” Jeremiah 29:11 (The Message)

Where do I begin? How do I begin? Will anyone even care to read it? Who am I to do this? – Questions, doubts, excuses to not start. God has been working on me for years. I have loved my career as a high school teacher! I still do. Yet, God’s voice. Change. Shift. Change is scary! And exciting…yet scary!

God has been working on my husband and I too. Together through the years. We’ve flat out said “no, no thank you”. And then God got His way anyway! 🙂 When we entered into the filming of “For the Life of the World” we had no idea of God’s full plans. I’m not sure we do now either! (That’s the exciting part…and the scary part!). When we initially said “no” to that project (in an effort of being humble…saying “but it’s NOT about us”), I’ll never forget what God said to me. “You’re right…it’s NOT about you…it’s about ME and I want you to tell your story and reflect my glory”.[...] read more
